Gil

A desire for a better home for his family is what brought him to Princeton Community Housing, but loving his job is what has kept him here.

Gilmore “Gil” Enamorado, the Maintenance Supervisor for Princeton Community Village, has worked for PCH since 1994. He spent the first six months commuting from the Bronx until he was able to secure a home right here at PCV. This has made for a short commute, but also enabled him to handle many emergencies in a timely manner.

Dealing with the unexpected might be a challenge for some, but Gil says one of the best parts of his job is that “every day is different.” The variety implicit in this job has meant that he must be a jack of all trades, and he is! While he had formal training to get his boiler license and attended a few seminars, much of his knowledge he has gained on his own. “I watched hours and hours of different things on home improvement channels,” Gil explained. “I go to Google and check everything. I learn fast.”

After many years on the jobs, Gil is happy to share his expertise with his workers. “I love teaching. When I came here somebody taught me. Now I teach others.” He went on to say, “I am grateful for the crew I have. They are energetic and never say no.”

Gil has seen a lot in his 28 years here at PCV, but he said his proudest moments have been when he is able to do prepare an apartment for a new family. “I love when they come in and say how beautiful it is.” But he doesn’t play favorites. “I feel like all the residents are like my kids and I need to do my best for them. That’s the way I see it.”
