Why PCH? Why were you interested in joining the PCH Board and working for affordable housing in Princeton?
I grew up on a farm just north of Princeton in Montgomery Township. I attended St. Paul’s School in Princeton and The Lawrenceville School. In 1982, I met my wife (Lynne Famer) who lived at PCV. We lived together at PCV from 1982-1984, and we married in 1984. Lynne and her daughter lived at PCV from 1977-1984, after she had escaped an abusive marriage. PCV provided her with the safety and security that she had not had in a long time. It was a great place to raise children.
In 1983, Lynne quit her job and went back to school full time, which was made possible by the sliding scale rent at PCV. In 1984, she earned her Associates Degree from Mercer County College, and went on to graduating Wellesley in 1987 with a B.S. in Biology. She was the first in her family to graduate from college. Later, she would earn an MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University.
In 2009, Lynne died from esophageal cancer. We had been married twenty-five years. In 2013, I reconnected with my high school sweetheart, Ellen Baber, who was living and working in Princeton, and had also lost her husband to esophageal cancer. In 2015, I moved back to Princeton, and we married two years later.
PCV has always had a special place in my heart. After I returned and got re-settled here, I purchased a memorial plaque which is displayed outside the PCV Office in Holly House in Lynne’s memory. Soon after that, I became a member of the PCV Board.
What is your professional background?
I have been involved in education as a teacher and administrator since 1984. I worked in boarding schools from 1984-2015, where I was a teacher (grades 5-12), Dean of Students, and Director of Residential Life. When I moved back to Princeton in 2015, I taught Math to elementary school children at two local private schools. I retired in 2023.
How long have you been in the Princeton area?
I was born in Trenton, NJ and raised in Rocky Hill. After college, I returned home and worked various jobs in the Princeton area before moving to Boston. I returned to Princeton in 2015.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I was very active coaching many youth sports teams from 1997-2003 (lacrosse, baseball, soccer, basketball) as my boys grew up. Each spring, I referee high school lacrosse games, which I have done for more than twenty years in Virginia and New Jersey. I also enjoy playing golf.
