Noelle Aguilar came to Princeton Community Housing (PCH) looking for an organization where she could make a difference and use her organizational skills. “It is important to me to have a position where I am creating a good impact on society,” Noelle explained as she reflected on her past and present positions. “PCH has a great mission. We are here to help people and I love to help people.”
Noelle has definitely helped residents in her nine years at PCH. First as the Congregate Care Program manager and office assistant, and as of December 1, 2022, the assistant property manager to both Harriet Bryan House and Elm Court. Noelle described her duties in her first role as requiring her “to wear many hats” as she helped organize and monitor a number of activities on the properties such as the Community Garden, art classes, and a book club. Her duties coordinating the Congregate program, which offers light housekeeping, a daily meal, and some other personal care services, was one of her favorite parts of her job, especially when signing up people who weren’t aware of it. “Getting that email or note saying ‘I got a hot lunch and it was great!‘or ‘Nancy the housekeeper came in and the place is sparking!’” brightened her day.
In her new position, Noelle will be focusing mainly on recertifying residents at Harriet Bryan and Elm Court per HUD requirements for affordable housing. She welcomes the shift stating, “I always like to learn new things.” Noelle is also excited about the opportunity to use her strengths in organization, creativity, and system coordination on the management side of PCH. While she recognizes there is much for her to master, Noelle mentioned what a great collaborative environment there is at PCH. In addition, she mentioned the strong communication across all levels of the organization which will make her new job both easier in some ways and exciting in others as they strive to “work smarter, not harder.”
In the future, Noelle still hopes to be a part of what makes living at PCH so great, which includes being a part of community activities. “My biggest joy comes from hosting family events here.” She hopes PCH can bring back the family picnic. “Knowing residents are so happy to be a part of the community like this brings me joy. This is why I am here, to bring joy and to be sure everybody is happy.”
